I was nervous, yet excited to meet my new class.

No- I wanted to be a midwife.

When I was younger, I played for Everton.

Yes. I’m really excited to meet my new class next year and do lots of fun things with them.

I would most like to teach reception and see them develop into more independent people.

  1. What do you like/dislike about being a teaching assistant?

 

Helping children and reading with the children and helping them discover they can read.

I was very nervous, but OK because I knew all the children and I had Mrs Graham who was very welcoming and nice.

A canoeist but I had a head injury.

Maths because I worry that I’m explaining the wrong thing.

  1. What do you like/dislike about teaching?

Likes helping children to learn and getting to know them .I don’t like marking and paperwork.

I was teaching year two, I felt very nervous, I wasn’t  the first teacher in their class.

No! I wanted to be a lawyer or solicitor but then decided to be a teacher.

Art-I’m not naturally creative.

I get on with everyone. I am mostly friends with year 1 and 2 teachers.

No one day is the same, always learning and I don’t dislike anything.

It wasn’t in high definition (ha,ha,ha) I can’t really remember but I must have been nervous.

I like working with children every day- especially the younger children because they can say funny things when they don’t mean it.

I shared a classroom with Mrs Jones who made me laugh and made me feel welcome- it was a brilliant day.

I wanted to be a professional dancer.

I have been mentoring  for  12 years  7 of  them  have  been at Dovedale.

 

  1. What inspired you to become a mentor?

Wanting   young   children  to  be   able to cope better with their mental health.

 

 

  1. Did you have to train to be a mentor? If so where?

I didn’t have to train because I was a teacher but I did my mentor qualifaction.

 

 

  1. How did you come up with the idea of Smile for a While?

My experience based on when I was a child and being asked by Mr Smith.

 

 

  1. What was your reaction when you were appointed the role of mentor?

Excited, proud, keen to learn.

 

 

  1. What are the most common problems that you have had to solve?     

Anxiety, Worries, Confidence, Bereavement, Friendship, Anger

 

 

  1. What advise could you give to children to help maintain a positive attitude towards school?

Go to bed on time, Less electronics before bed, Don’t compare yourself to others.

 

 

  1. What tips could you give to help relieve stress?

East healthily, drink water, do something you enjoy, listen to relaxation music and talk to someone about your worries.

I have been mentoring for 3 years and all of that is at Dovedale.

 

  1. What inspired you to become a mentor?

I always wanted to help people who were feeling sad, worried and scared

 

 

  1. Did you have to train to be a mentor? If so where?

No, but I went to different places to train in different things to help me with my role.

 

 

  1. How did you come up with the idea of Smile for a While?

I didn’t , the children came up with the idea of the club . It’s the children club not ours.

 

 

  1. What was your reaction when you were appointed the role of mentor?

I was over joyed I even said to Mr Smith ‘’ I think I’m going to cry!”

 

 

  1. What are the most common problems that you have had to solve?

Children that have had bereavements.

 

  1. What advice could you give to children to help maintain a positive attitude towards school?

Try not to worry about everyone else and just be yourself.

It can be tricky. It depends on the situation.

Bereavement.

  1. What do you like/dislike about teaching?

 

I like the kids; I dislike going out when it rains.

 

  1. How was your first day of teaching at Dovedale?

It was scary, but I loved the kids.

 

  1. Did you always want to be a teacher? If not, what did you want to be?

I first wanted to be a vet. But then I decided that I would prefer to be a teacher.

 

 

  1. Which subject do you find hardest to teach?

 

Maths  because the children hardly know much about the subject.

 

  1. Which members of staff are you friends with outside of school?

 

All of them: Mrs Dwan, Mrs Bore and Mr Jones.

 

  1. What did you study at university and where?

 

I studied theology, R.E. and educational studies at Hope university.

And I also did a PGCE.

What are your hobbies outside of school?

 

Being a mum, reading, shopping and going to the cinema.

 

 

  1. What is your strangest habit?

 

I have to eat one of each coloured skittle at once.

I am very frightened of parents.
