Cookery and Nutrition at Dovedale

We want our pupils to gain vital knowledge about how to get a balance of healthier and more sustainable food, as well as application of the vital life-skill of cooking, centered around the principles of good nutrition. It is of paramount importance to us that our children are immersed in opportunities to develop a love of cooking through experience and their own creativity as part of a healthy lifestyle and experiences that allows children to learn about the main principles of a healthy and varied diet, techniques for cooking and where food comes from before it gets to us. All whilst having fun and being creative!

Eating a balanced and healthy diet

We teach our children that how much of what we eat overall should come from each food group.  Click on the Food Guide to have a look at the NHS' interactive resource for discovering how to achieve this balance and expores the wide range of nutrient our bodies need.  Can you create your own meal using a variety of different foods from the 5 groups?

Interactive learning games!

There are some fun games below that you can play at home including a 'Farm to Fork' challenge about where food comes from, as well as a game deciding whether a particular food is sourced from a plant or animal.  

                   

Junior Chef!

Each Year Key Stage One enjoy learning about where different foods are sourced from, how they can be nutritionally beneficial to us and how to prepare and make some healthy dishes.
